Product Description

The RoseArt Smart Easel provides a sturdy work surface, handy access to markers and materials, a dry erase board and a roll of paper that attaches to the easel to keep your young artist's creativity freely flowing. Intended for ages four and up, this kid-sized easel also features a lightweight, portable design so that it can easily be taken outdoors or on the road. This means that your little van Gogh can be out in the field painting sunflowers in no time, and that the whole easel can be compactly stowed away when not in use.

The Smart Easel is lightweight, portable, and features pockets, and pen holders. View larger.

A large fabric under-tray serves as a catch-all for finished artwork. View larger.
Art Anytime, Anywhere
After fairly simple assembly, which requires an adult but not any tools, the included 50-foot roll of butcher paper slips onto a bar at the top for an ongoing paper supply. Three plastic clips are included to hold the paper securely in place at the bottom. The Smart Easel also comes with eight washable markers (in classic rainbow colors plus versatile brown and black), so your young artist can get started right away. Two flaps swing out from the easel's sides, featuring mesh pockets and elastic pen holsters that are designed to hold a variety of coloring materials. The plastic paint tray at the bottom is the perfect size for small paint jars, wet brushes, glue or glitter. A large fabric under-tray at the base serves as a catch-all for finished artwork, at least until the refrigerator debut or hallway retrospective can be scheduled.

When art time is over, or a new location for drawing is desired, the easel can be quickly washed down and folded up. The fabric side flaps, under-tray, and carrying bag are all made of washable materials, and the paint tray can be removed for cleaning or spills. Stray marks from the washable pens can be removed from most surfaces with warm water and mild soap. The easel's durable metal frame with plastic connecting pieces is 50 inches tall and has a sturdy 4-leg design. Weighing in at about 13 pounds, the easel is substantial enough to remain stable while in use, but light enough to be carried by an adult or older child. The set also includes a large bag with a handle and shoulder strap for easy transportation.

Set-up and Organization Features
A slight downside to the easel is its assembly process. Although the easel includes easy-to-read directions, and though the pieces themselves were easy to snap together without any tools, the set-up was a bit confusing and took about 30 minutes. Once assembled, the easel has an inviting appeal. The design of the side flaps definitely encourages tidiness. Plus, having all the supplies neatly on hand, and all the colors in full view, helps keep the creative momentum going. The thrill of having all that paper at your fingertips is also a great incentive to make more art.

Another small downside is that the paint tray is a bit too narrow to hold a mason jar for cleaning brushes or to comfortably balance an open watercolor box. And while the tray's separate cup-shaped space is handy for preventing spills, it is also quite small -- about the size of one paint jar or a Dixie cup. And inconveniently, the easel doesn't come with any dry erase markers or erasers, which makes its whiteboard seem like an accident waiting to happen. However, even if the dry erase board gets permanently marked, it will still serve its main purpose as a sturdy work surface for the paper.

Overall, the RoseArt Smart Easel inspires creativity in young artists-to-be, with an easy-to-clean, portable design that will keep parents pleased.

This grandma liked it.

My grandkids love this easel. I chose this one because it can be tucked away & easily transported to anywhere one would like to go to draw. The assembly instructions were small & hard to figure out. I had to look over them several times. I mostly figured it out by looking at the picture. Luckily the harder something is to figure out the better I like it.

I wanted to find an easel for my 9 year old niece that was inexpensive and durable but not too 'kiddy'. I was truely stunned at how awesome this product was. Perfect for any young artist! I didn't expect the level of construction and qaulity that I recieved. Great gift, a pain to put together the first time but easy enough that my niece can break it down(with a little help) and put it in the convenient caring case ever since. my niece and I were very happy with it and I gotta figure out how to top it next xmas....haha.
The WORST purchase I've made in years!

The assembly was difficult because the metal was bent and warped. Once assembled, it did not sit level. The canvas pieces weren't large enough to be attached as directed, the velcro kept popping open due to the strain. The hard surface that the child will draw/paint on is actually 2 pieces that lock together, making every piece of artwork have a nice bump/groove/line where a marker might pass over it. Lastly, you have to break down almost all the assembly to get this thing folded up.

A waste of money, time, and raw materials! I returned mine. Even $[...] is too much to pay for this headache and it's marketed for $[...] +. Skip this one!

The ony issue I have with the easel is that on the white board the dry eraser markers color stain and won't come off.

purchased this art easel for all three of my children to use. they have so much fun with it. my oldest can play teacher, and they can all make fun pictures and practice letters and numbers with the giant roll of paper that comes with the easel. it was easy to assemble, i absolutely adore this product, and it is also incredible easy to break down for storage in the bag that comes with it.

My granddaughter got this for xmas, she enjoyed it well, but there is not enough room to put extra things or arts things to have close by. Other than that it serves its purpose well.
DON'T BUY THIS!

We received this as a gift for our son. After struggling with the worthless directions (all pictures that show no detail and are very poor quality) we immediately knew it was total junk. The dry erase board comes in 2 pieces, so there will be a line down every picture drawn. The backing is also extremely flimsy, as is the whole thing. My 2 1/2 year old son knocked it over within 5 minutes. I wish I had read the reviews before we took it out of the box. We had it boxed back up immediately and are taking it back today. Really, EVERY Rose Art product is just not good quality. Their markers, crayons, etc are no good. We also found out that you cannot find replacement paper on this product.
FOUND PAPER REFILL YAY!

This is more of an informational blurb for all of those people who can't find paper refills for this easel. I found on line a roll thats 12"x 200ft for about $10. Now its slightly smaller than the original rolls width but it works really well and is defiantly better than nothing at all.
I found it on Discount School Supplies.com search 12"x200ft paper rolls and you'll see it on the second page for $[...]
Sorry for the previous link that didn't show.

Hope this has helped
Good easel for the money

I agree with the reviews here. Good easel, a little difficult to assemble, but my kids love it. The split dry erase board bugged me too, but the kids don't seem to mind, so it's not really an issue. It was nearly impossible to find a refill roll of paper when the original ran out. After checking Hobby Lobby and assorted office supply stores, I finally found it at Michael's in the kids craft area. It's a little shorter than the original roll, but it's the closest match I've been able to find. Very inexpensive also - I paid $3/roll and it'd be even less with their weekly coupons.
Great Item

For all you Mom's & Dad's out there that want a great item for kids with lots of options you should buy this. Easy to put together and better yet easy to take down and has a carrying bag to take with you wherever you go. Comes with everything you need. I gave this item to my god daughter and she has absolutely loved it.
Great buy!

This easel is a great buy [...]! My daughter is too old for the little tikes easels, but I didn't want to spend alot of money on an easel. She tried this one and we have no complaints at all. My husband put it together within 15 minutes or so. The dry erase board is in two pieces, but with a little effort he put it together so that the boards are smooth and there's no edges sticking out etc. She loves it so far! I recommend it!
Excellent Product...

I purchased the Rose Art Easel when my little one was 2 years old, she is now 4 going on 5 and this is one of the best items I've purchased. It's great for traveling and taking along on a park ride. It has being shared with other kids who stop by to watch her paint. I just purchased another one to take along for others who wish to join her.

The paper rolls can be found at Michaels Crafts for about 10 dollars or less, really a steal for the price. I highly recommend it to others. This has being the best ever and is not heavy... you will get your money's worth.
Too bad there is no paper!

My daughter who lives to draw and paint received this easel for Christmas. When the paper ran out, I began the search for a replacement roll. How hard could that be right? Wrong, I searched everywhere and than was very happy that the roll was sold on Amazon. However, once I received the replacement roll it didn't fit the easel. Why doesn't someone just sell the right size roll? Seems awfully silly?!
Smart Easel is Really Smart !!!!!

I recently purchased the Smart Easel for our 6 year old son who loves to paint it is great !! I can easily put washable paint in the paint tray (no need for paint cups ) I just wipe out any remaining paint with an old clean rag and wipe it down clean. Excellent product was VERY easy to put together. I put it together in no time. I do recommend putting a splat mat under it if your child paints. Great product 5 stars !!!! would get another one for a friend!!!!
"Portable" NOT

It was considerably harder to take this item down than expected!!
It's a great product but it's not something that I just whip out whenever my 4 year old wishes to play with it.
It's either up...clogging my living room....or it's very stored in a closet until her DAD assembles it for her.
Price is cheaper at Toys r Us

This easel is on sale at Toys r Us for 29.99 and at Target for 39.99. I would never pay the advertised price that is posted here. But I bought a better quality easel anyway.
Good product with a few problems

My daughter (5 years old)got it for Christmas last year and loves it. The only major problem was that we could not find refill paper rolls and that is the feature she loved the most. I finally found a source for paper refills - "Doodle Roll" by Pacon Corp. I found at Michael's crafts - it's not an exact fit - it's 12"x50' for $[...] - but it works just fine. The only other issue is that the dry erase board is very difficult to clean. I would recommend the product though.
Fun and educational, all in one!

My daughter received this as a 5th birthday gift from a classmate. I was impressed by it right away. It is sturdy for a product that's meant to fold up and travel! My daughter is not too much of an artist, but LOVES to write, so this was perfect for her! The only thing I wasn't too fond about was the fact that the dry erase board is divided in half. I supposed if we actually broke it down for travelling, it wouldn't be so annoying, but it's stayed in one piece, in my living room since she got it. The crack down the middle doesn't seem to bother her, and in fact, she uses this to create lists -- one on one side of the board, and one on the other side. She has used this easel CONSTANTLY since the minute she got it, and 8 months later, she is still using this every single day!! At first she made lists of her friends on it, now she is writing full paragraphs on it! We also use it to play a game she loves, "Spell That Word!" She also uses it to emulate her teachers at school. I have taken numerous pictures of what she writes on the dry erase board, so I can document her educational progress. All in all, this is an EXCELLENT educational tool, and because she loves writing on it so much, her penmanship has gotten very good too!
