Perfect child's art easel!

This is the first time that I've written a review for something I've purchased online, because I felt that I had to share how wonderful this product is! We purchased this easel for our 2 year old's birthday in May and she has been in love with it since the day we put it together! Her dad leaves for work before she wakes up every morning, so he leaves her a message on the chalkboard side everyday. She always goes to see what dad has drawn for her or written to her each morning!
We love that there is a storage tray under the easel and can keep all our daughter's art supplies handy and off the floor when she's not using them. That was a feature that wasn't in many of the other easels we had researched. We also like that the the paper roll is on top of the easel and makes folding the easel flat for storage simple. We know that it's recommended for children over the age of 3, but she's always supervised when using the easel and after putting it together, we were confident that it is sturdy; all joints are snug. There are no small pieces that she can swallow.
This easel is a beautiful shade of espresso and coordinates well with our dark wood furniture. We would most definitely recommend it! |

This easel is absolutely both beautiful and functional. The espresso wood is a rich color that looks wonderful in our children's playroom. It's a very sturdy piece, and only took my husband (who is very handy) 10 minutes to assemble. My 2 year old is painting and coloring on there everyday. Make sure that you follow directions and color with a flat piece of chalk over the entire chalkboard at the beginning for easy writing...it seems to be working. We will use this easel for many years to come!!
Great Christmas Present for our 4 year old!

I knew I wanted to get our 4 year old an easel for Christmas and had just assumed I would buy her a Melissa & Doug one since I wanted a wooden one, but after seeing one in the store and then reading the reviews I decided that wasn't the way to go so I started reading reviews of other ones online.
That's when I came across the KidKraft Deluxe Wood Easel and since the reviews about it were great, it was closer to the price range we wanted to spend versus some of the other ones and we also have the KidKraft wooden table and chairs and I know those are good quality I decided to go with the KidKraft Easel.
We bought it for Christmas of 2009 and here it is the end of April and I think my daughter has played with it every day, except when we were on vacation. At first she used the chalk side and paper all the time, but now since we bought some dry erase markers she seems to use that side the most.
We have so much fun writing notes to each other, drawing pictures, playing hangman or tic tac toe. I wish I would of bought one when my son was her age so we could of been using it for a lot longer and maybe he would of learned to write his name a lot earlier like my daughter did?!?
Would I recommend this to my family and friends.. hands down yes!

Wonderful for creative little minds

I bought this easel for my 3 1/2 yr old for Christmas. She loves it! The height adjustment is a great feature. It gets used almost every day and is very sturdy. I had to buy some extra items to go with it to make it fully functional as the easel only comes with 1 dry erase marker and an eraser. So I bought the Melissa and Doug accessory pack that has paints, brushes, cups and chalk. It would have been nice if the easel had a way to clip or somehow hold the paper down when she's painting but I'm using a large binder clip and that seems to work. Overall a wonderful product.

My daughter is an artist and wanted our three-year old grandson to have a sturdy easel. I gave this one to him for Christmas and both my grandson and daughter were extremely pleased with it.

We purchased this easel for our 3 y.o. daughter for Christmas. She loves to water paint on the paper and use the dry erase board. It's a great tool for teaching your children their letters and how to draw. She uses it about every day. It's winter and it gives her something to do while we're stuck inside due to the cold and snow. It was easy to assemble...however, the plastic washers for the screws were scattered throughout the box and were hard to find because they weren't secured well. There were also scrapes on the wood, however the packaging states that the easel is hand made and that there may be natural defects. One surprise was that there is actually a try at the bottom of the easel between the legs that holds it open and can be used for storage...it isn't shown in the picture. I would recommend this easel to anyone who was interested in purchasing one.

We purchased this for our 2-1/2 year old granddaughter last Christmas and it was the #1 hit. Now a year older, she's still enjoying the easel and painting -- asks to use it most every day. One side is for paper and paints; the other for blackboard and chalks. She truly loves it. It sits in their small kitchen and doesn't take up much space. The blackboard is always available, but mom and dad bring out the paints and set in the grooved tray when it's time to paint. A great way to encourage creativity! The construction is sturdy and attractive.
Another dud from KidKraft

Well, they have done it again. Last year, we received the KidKraft train table, and I reviewed it negatively.
If I had a choice in the matter, I would definitely have gone with a different company, but, alas, my mother-in-law did not read my review. To clarify, the easel we received was not exactly the one pictured. They have the same product number, but ours is "B" instead of "A".
I did have an open mind to start, but it became closed when I tried to assemble the thing. Two problems: the trays that you attach are supposed to have plastic washers so you can fold them up, but because they drilled holes with wells in them, the washers lie flush with the wood, and therefore do not do the job. Not only that, now there is a space on either side that must be filled with an extra washer (or 2, I don't know). I'm sure the company will send me some, but not in time for Christmas.
The second problem is more frustrating. The easel is supposed to open up to stand better and fit a tray at the base. However, because of the way the hinges are attached at the top, and the supporting pieces are not rounded at the top, it DOES NOT open more than 30 degrees or so.
And let me add that this is an expensive product, one that you would expect to be made with more attention to quality and detail. For that reason, I feel I can be more pointed in my criticisms.
I will add that I don't know if the kids will like it or care about what I will have to do to the thing to make it work. But, in conclusion, I would seriously think twice about ordering from this company.
I hope this is helpful. |
The BEST easel, but still has one flaw...

This easel is the best I've seen for quality. We've had ours (purchased from Costco for half this price) for three years and it's still looking great. The adjustable height feature is handy to accomodate my daughter's growth- lowest setting worked for her at 15 months, and she currently uses it at the highest setting as a VERY tall 4 1/2-yr-old. Paper roll size is standard and easily replaced. I love the rack on the bottom for drying paintings or just extra storage (most others don't have that). It cleans easily and is extremely sturdy and well-made- like I said, the best I've seen. The one flaw, in my opinion is that neither side is magnetic. This would have added another element of fun, and I am disappointed about it. That said, I still rate it 5 stars and if it were ever destroyed (in a fire or something) we would pay full price to replace it, no question!

This kiddraft easel is a beauty to any room. It is sturdy, so strong build, easy to put together and has two sides for writing or coloring. This can keep children busy for a long time. I appreciate the cups for holding the chalk and eraser. Be aware this easel is large, not tiny like others. Perfect for children 3 to 12 plus. The design of this piece is absolutely classy and decorates any children.s room or class room beautifully. thank you, this is a super dea for this price. Be careful when you compare prices....you can get it without shipping and handling plus no tax plus 10% off ....same exact easel.

My 4 year old and 2 year old just love this toy. It seems to be durable and is an attractive addition to the playroom. The chalkboard came with a little scatch on it and the customer service at KidKfraft was fantastic. We received a replacement easel top within days.

I spent over $100 for mine, through Amazon. I wish I'd just gotten the Melissa and Doug one as I've heard good reviews about that. I do like this one, but it only has space for two cans of paint and the chalkboard is not magnetic.
Solid, durable, multi-purpose easel

I researched many easels before purchasing this one. It includes a chalkboard, white board, and a paper roll at the top, which can be pulled down for drawing. I bought this for my twins' 3rd birthday. Now, they are 4-1/2 and they and their friends continue to get a lot of use out of this. The only problem is that I regularly have to tighten the screws to hold parts of the easel together. Also, the cups which hold paint are not really necessary and I would have preferred that there were not holes in the trays for the cups. Otherwise, I am very happy with this purchase.
Outstanding Product

I had not seen this easel "in person" prior to purchase, but it appeared to be of quality. It is a very solid piece of furniture. Delivery was earlier than expected (a good thing) and KidKraft sent the missing plastic washers (not a big deal) promptly. It will be around for many years!!
Excellent product!
